7 to 8 weeks

We went to the house today for a brief informal meeting with the Builder. After a walk around the upstairs and downstairs, we asked for a timescale for completion. 7 to 8 weeks. I had guessed that we wouldn’t be in the house by middle of July, almost a few days away. I had orriginally jested that we would be in September. God I hate it when I am right.

So the middle of September and another  (at least) 4 pay days till we move in. So Rent on this place and mortgage, plus car and living expenses. Tight is not going to be even close. The annoying thing is that I cannot even have a say or get up the builders myself. It is all down to Sam and Karen, as they are on the title deeds and contract. They have had some great weather and yet they failed to do anything, they wait for the bad weather and drag their heels, which really pisses me off. By rights we should be in and settled. But no, they – the builders have done hardly anything to move this project along.

So based on the builders estimation of 7 – 8 weeks, I suspect that it will be even longer. I expect another 4 weeks on top of that. I reckon that by the end of October we will have the keys and start moving in. Why is it that Builders are such arseholes and make life so difficult for everyone? If I was running the company,I would have seriously vetted the contractors and ensured that they deliver what they promise and also make them sign a contract that should they fail to deliver, they don’t get paid. Maybe they might actually be bothered, or go away and piss some other person off.

Gallery Update – New Pictures

Hi All,

I have added a batch of new photographs of the house. In the gallery, look for At Lockup, second page I believe

House Update

New images added to the gallery…now with bricks

The House – Duplex

This is an artists impression on the design of the house we are building. It is based upon a design from duplex.com.au and have made some alterations to suit our needs and requirements.

There are a few subtle changes to the layout and also the exterior. There are windows on the wall facing towards the front of the house in the back bedrooms. Colour scheme will differ slightly. It will be interesting to see the end product

There be Windows

…and not the Operating System kind. I dropped by this afternoon after work and took a few snap shots. If you go to my gallery (there is a link on my blog for Facebook readers)

House Updates…

Well, Friday came eventually and my task before I arrived home was to see if anything had been done with the house. Thankfully, they have put the flooring in to start the second storey. However, yes there is always one of those. Energy Australia had been round to visit the site, to see if the builders had placed ‘Tiger Tails’ on the power cables. Apparently when Energy Australia came  to check the site, the guy ably assisted with his guide dog, could not see any. This prompted them to threaten with site closure untill the builders had fitted aforementioned ‘Tiger Tails’ onto the cables.

Now some of you will know what Tiger Tails are, for those that don’t I will explain. Tiger Tails are a name/nickname given to a protective cover that insulates power cables from touching Humans or a Mechanical device. They are so coloured like a tail on a tiger – hence tiger tails.

‘Tiger Tails’

As you can see from this rather dull and overcast picture, there appears to be something wrapped around the power cables. I wonder what it could be? Can you guess what it is?

Energy Australia, since when has Stevie Wonder been an authorized representative of your company?

recent events

I have been busy with work and with busy designing my new look web site. So far all has gone reasonably well. I had a few issues uploading my images of the House Build last night, it seems that my hosting company had a few issues, as tonight the images have gone up without issue.

I will start with the new look site. I have been toying with a number of ideas, but none of them really appealed to me, they also caused me a few dramas with the design. Dreamweaver CS4 has some strange quirks with templates. I have had these problems before on previous versions. Thankfully I have powered on and worked through them, although, I have to say that I am still not 100% happy. Lets say it is down to the end user more than the program. My new site will be based on Photography, Video, Music and design. It will also feature the Mac and a little mention here and there on the PC. The site is still being worked on and toyed with, so don’t hold your breath, as I have yet to finish a web site of my own.

The House build. So far it is going well. There are a few hiccups, as to be expected with builders, plumbers and sparkies. They will always find an excuse to not be there when they are supposed to. It seems that the plumbing has taken a bit of a hammering from the major cleanup today. They have completed the task of putting storm water drains in and in this task have managed to damage 4 of the pipes used for water and sewer. I could understand this if they were just white, but they were sprayed yellow so they would stand out from the grey/white slab. The slab has now been cleared off and all the dirt moved off to fill in the drainage channels dug out to accommodate the pipes. Now residing on the slab is a selection of wooden frames, RSJ’s and other items. Hopefully this week the building will actually look like a house, or at least the makings of a house.

Work. I had to replace the switches in the small rack as one had given up the ghost and the other was old and only 100Mb connection. So off to the shop and 2 x 16 port switches and some new cat6 patch leads. So a complete rewire of the rack and finally get everyone and everything on the network connecting at 1Gb. Some would argue that there is no difference. At this point I would agree as the main link from the small rack is only cat5 cable and is double backing from outlet to rack then back to the main rack. Hopefully soon to be rewired correctly – Don’t ask, my predecessor had no idea.

The Mac…It works and works well. Need I say more?

House Update

Well, so far so good. The build is progressing nicely, we are just waiting on the drainage to be put in place. Once that is completed the rest of the house can progress. The Builders have already acquired the frame and windows.

Gallery Update / Blog Update

It has been a while since I have done anything with the gallery, which is linked to this site (and held on this site). I felt it was time to make some adjustments. Thankfully I remembered what my log in was, so I have deleted all the images, albums and categories, as they were pretty messed up. Coppermine gallery which comes as an add-on with my control panel, is a bit painful to upload, add an album. My first attempts were hap hazard and completely unorganized. I am starting to rebuild the gallery, change the theme and re add photos as I go.

Some photos of the house build are located on there, so check back for updates, as this will take a few days to get most of the House pictures on there, then I will add past photos on there and hopefully get the Categories and Albums right this time.

I have added a page to this blog dedicated to the House build, so any updates will appear here as a short note.

The Slab – House Build Continuum

So it begins. The house is starting to take shape. In another 2 weeks time or so, there will be some form of structure taking shape in an upwardly fashion. See the photo’s below.
