The Mac saga continues. I sent the memory back on Monday. The Memory was delivered at 8.30 the following day via AAE. The company I had it delivered to, don’t open till 9.30am…. So package was taken back to the depot. driver left a card to tell them where to pick package up from…and did they?!?!?! NO! Contacted them yesterday, they even stated that a courier had left a card, but the thick fucks hadnt bothered to collect!!! They said they werent sure it was for them or some other lame dumb ass excuse! Wankers. So I called AAE this arvo and asked what had happened. Thus far they will be delivering after 10am, to ensure the stupid lazy thick fucks are there. And these people are IT people…OMFG god help us all!!!
How stupid can people be?

Mac OSX Tiger
Sunday, July 1st, 2007
OSX Family pack arrived on Friday, ahead of Wista Ultimate. Odd really as Wista was posted out first, so by rights it should come tomorrow. Only got the chance to install it tonight. So set the Quicksilver up for yet another fall and so far so good. In case your wondering, the Quicksilver is the POS (pile of shit), I was going to insert sideways into the sellers slot. Thankfully the beast is staying. Why? well one bad stick of RAM screwed me over. Yep, that last step i should have taken, but cracked the shits before i got to it. I had swapped memory around and moved them into different slots even removed one of them. Sadly I never got to the part where I just use one stick and then swap that for the other. After trying to install Panther and Tiger, I had, had enough of furry animals that growl!
One snotty e-mail later, I got a reply stating that they would await my response to the memory swap test. And for an additional $40 I can get another stick of 512Mb RAM. Bringing the total to 1Gb of RAM. The machine currently has 512Mb with 2 sticks, one good and the other not so good. Anyway, all is well and now I have a quicker MAC!
Speaking of quicker Mac’s. I saw my dream beast in Dick Smiths a rather large electronics/audio retail store here in Oz. The beast was a 24″ iMac for a grand total of $2899.00 or so. Looked nice and the price aint too bad either, so may have to save my pennies up for that. Then there is the matter of the software I would like to install on it for real this time, no hacked or illegal shit on there, Just need to save some more pennies. The software in question is Final Cut 2 and Aperture, maybe even a legit version of Adobe CS3, but now I am taking the piss. Retail value of that little lot would probably cost more than the Mac. Then I would need to buy a decent HD camcorder.

Hence why I havent spent any time on here. Sadly this last purchase off ebay was BAD! A Decent looking machine, quicker and …..also fekking useless!!!! The poor old 800 Mhz Quicksilver just doesnt want to run.
The story thus far. Bought this mac for $400 plus postage and GST (same as VAT in the UK but only 10% here in Oz). The listing on ebay stated no OS, which is fine, as I am getting OSX 10.4 familly edition. So to get the beast running when it arrived, I installed 10.3.5 which came with my Graphite. Yes I know!!!!! Naughty of me using a single user liscence on 2 machines. AS you will notice, I have no OS installed on the quicksilver, only limited warranty, so need to install something OK!!! (more on this later). So booted up the MAC, all the usual gongs and whirring noises, so far so good.
Got to open the CD tray holding the mouse button down whilst booting, novell idea, but why no option to just be able to open the tray???? Anyway, inserted unopened 10.3.5 and closed the tray….by pushing it in…no button to open close (unlike my 400Mhz Graphite, which works perfectly and has said option to open and close via button on front of door)
Selected the OSX install disc and went on my way. Basic system installed, BSD subsystem……….. OOOPS Failed!!!! Ok, lets try again, cleared off the drive this time, removed 4 partitions one called Photoshop scratch disc!!! hmmm wonder if this was used in a design house? God knows how thing doesnt fekking work. Ok, tryed again, after veryfying, partitioning to one partion, checking permissions on disc and reparing. Onwards to the install again….Same issue. So checked the install logs. Fekk me!! The thing was lucky to get as far as it did, started off with a Bootstrap_look_up error(): unkown code and so on.
So I tried 9.2 which came with the iMac G3 400 Mhz. Well would you believe it, thats been running 9.2, 10.3, and 10.4 which was a naughty download and was installed over USB 1 via the external DVD drive, which was starting to look like we didnt really need it, thank god we bought the bloody thing..
So tried installing that Disc, via the external drive, NADA, got a bit further and once again shat itself. Ok, no probs with the dodgy copy which is now serving as a coffee cup coaster and doesnt reside on any of the macs. So I e-mailed the guy i bought this mac off and he is now looking into why it should be doing this. He has a copy of the error messages and logs, so his ‘tech’ guy can get back to us. 2 Days later…nothing.
The only OS I can get to run is 9.2 which is an iMac install disc???? Madness
Now onto my !!!!! with regard to installing more than machine with a single copy of OSX, yes I do agree it is wrong, but seeing as I need to test the machine out, I have to start with something. I was trawling the google site for my error messages and found a few sites that highlighted this issue – Faulty disc’s was one answer, which got the reply of having installed same said doftware on another machine and that worked fine! Same here, however the forum admin spat the dummy out and used the cop out clause, ‘you shouldnt be using the cd/dvd to install on more than one machine ya di ya yada da de dum. Point taken ass hole, but do you have to be so anal….? yes, coz he is an ass hole dummy.
So, my G4 400 is working great, the iMac is just as good and the iBook is doing fine also. So why wont the machine run? Hmmm, I tried pulling the SCSI card out that came with it, no difference, tried another HD and set that up…no difference, tried with both in, no difference. Took one stick of memory out, no difference, moved the memory up one slot…AHHHHHH!!!!! Machine no boot and get the Ghost buster sign up minus the Ghost.
So me thinks bad board, very naughty board. Tried my memory out of Graphite…no change. So all in all its ROOTED. Give me my money back. I will save up and buy a G5 if I have to or even a Mac Pro – may take a little while. Have you seen the price? Wow, need to sell your first born to get one.

A good weekend has been had by all. Mark and Linda + family have been and gone, they left early this morning. Marks father sadly is terminally ill and it is just a matter of time before we get that fateful call. I think both Mark and Linda needed to get away and relax as best as they could, hopefully make this forthcoming week a little more bearable, well that was the plan anyway.
The weather has been shocking, constant rain and some serious flooding in the Newcastle area and Hunter Valley, plus surrounding areas. Quite a few people have died whilst countless others have been injured and lost all their belongings and homes. farmers have lost livestock and even their farms have been submerged.
we needed rain, but jesus H we got more than we bargained for.
Back on the Mac tonight, felt like I needed to get back to normality, damn PC was playing up again, running that pesky Vista. Still haven’t got round to putting XP back on, I just can’t bring myself to phone MS to re-activate again. god that shits me. My New Mac ‘Quicksilver’ should be here within 6 days, i have also bookmarked a 500Gb exteranl Hard drive – SATA no less and will work on both MAC/PC. Albeit the drive will need formating to work with MAC, but hey, that should be easy to do???
I just hope that the Quicksilver can see larger sized Hard drives without having to partition the heck out of it. anyways, i could set the Drive to 50/50 mac – pc format, again fingers crossed.

Where to begin. Our trip to Melbourne is booked and paid for, well Frequent flyer points did and I even gained more points for booking an apartment by the docklands in Melbourne, not far from the Casino on the Yarra river. We have also got a hire car for the day before and also to make life easier for getting to Kingsford Smith (Airport) in the morning. Drop the car off at the Hire company and make our way to the terminal.
The plan for Melbourne is simple, arrive, drop luggage off, wander around, get breakfast, wander around some more and get into our room, shower, get changed and out for the day. Sam has got plans for the day and Saturday, albeit once evening comes into play, we will be watching Essendon (an AFL team renowned for choking I gather) playing against Carlton, I think, not sure on that, so will indulge in some investigation. I am going purely for the fact that this will be the first time I have been to any kind of Footy Match, either pommy or Ozzie. Sad I know.
Work has been up and down these past few weeks. Tomorrow is EOM – End of Month, so no doubt it will be crazy, plus I have to prepare some Life Raft’s to be sent to various places and indeed states. Up top far west and all stops in-between. Its only 16 Pallets to organise plus book transport and load them onto the Trucks when they Show up. WA Freightliners are usually very good and the driver is quite friendly, as most of them are. Just the occasional arsehole.
Tonight we went out for a meal at the local club ‘The Willows’, not that far away from us. Me and Sam, Karen, Jean and Adam and Jess (Adams Girlfriend). Chicken Parmagiano, Chips and Salad for main course and Deep fried Cheesy Bites, with Salad and a nice dipping sauce. I even got to have two schooners of New (Tooheys New), the first time I have had a drink since my 40th Birthday. I actually enjoyed having a few drinks, made a change. from not and having to drive.
Came home and started some washing for work, plus some Jeans needed doing and my socks. All I need to do now is setup the HDD recorder to record 3 more films tomorrow and a few more for Thursday, both nightime and whilst at work. I managed to find Short Circuit, I love that movie, well I did many years ago, haven’t seen it in a long time. I also managed to get a film called ‘The door in the floor’, starring Jeff Bridges, Mimi Rodgers and Kim Basinger. I was surprised to see Mimi getting her kit off, quite a bizarre film, raunchy too, without being Porn, got to save the eyes – getting old now. If you google the title of the film, you should pull up the website for it. Im too lazy to cut and paste right now, besides its not that easy whilst balancing a keyboard on your lap with your feet up on the coffee table, sorry remote table.
The Hard drive on the Samsung is getting full, I am sure the novelty will wear off soon, although there are some really good free movies showing at the moment, plus I get to record them without having the machine ban me from doing so, due to copyright laws – bastards. At the moment, I am looking at copying them onto a DVD so I can put them on the PC – More room on there, or will be when I start installing SATA drives in the ‘media PC’ but not yet. I have been putting a few items on watch on ebay, some bloody good prices too, 500Giggle bytes of HD – thats a shit load of eggs to put in one basket, I am not so sure on trusting any manufacturer just yet. I used to trust IBM drives till one day, my bestest drive shat its load, from then on in, I don’t trust. Especialy Western Digital – 3 in one go, bang bang, bang Foooked. Western didge are crap! wouldnt touch with a bleeding barge pole, maybe a hammer, but nothing else. I aint gonna sing the praises of my currently used hardware, just in case i put the curse on them.
Subject change in case I do. Mac. Yes Mac, dvd ripping software, I typed in on googloid and pulled up Mac the ripper. Download it, unstuffit, run it, rip it and bingo, no mess, no faffing around running anydvd or similar proggy, all in one DVD backup to ones hard drive. So I started running this software thinking it would take an age – wrong – My Powermac G4 is only 400Mhz, so I wasnt expecting lightening fast speed – wrong it was quicker than my 3.2 Ghz 2 Gig ram PC.
Speaking of Mac’s My Hard drive is a 160Gig drive set to the standard format that Mac use Mac OS extended, however the Mac only see’s about 120gig of this, so I am missing 30+ gb, even allowing for the usual step down of 8 bits equals 1 byte, this is still a lot to be missing. There are no other partitions, unless the mac was setup to run and dual boot, which if memory serves me right, it can with OS9 I believe, so maybe the drive is partitioned for OS9? I havent actually check to see if I can boot into 9 and see if the HD is set for 30 gb or so for OS9 and therefore maybe hidden as a result.
Ok, I am babling shit here, so must be time to set the recorder to its work and off to the land of Nod

Wow!!! What can I say. Plugged it in, connected everything up and fired her up. half the time it takes for my PC to get out of BIOS Mode, she was up and running Panther!!
Not had much chance to do that much, as I have not been home that long, except from the few moments I had at work when I oppened her up and had a look inside. So Different to PC’s. The Motherboard is almost baron and devoid of crap that normally clutters up the PC format. Things are in their place and tidy. The machine is so quiet too.
Will have to load up some of my software that i have for her and see what happens. I installed Photoshop CS2 on the iMac and that ran ok, so this beastie should have NO problems. I said this a few posts back,, but I am going to say it again. ‘I should have done this ages ago!’

Ahhhhh, its only a matter of time before my latest purchase off the dreaded eBay arrives. Sam got an e-mail wednesday night to say it had been shipped, complete with online tracking details. At the moment it says, its in transit from Melbourne to Sydney. Time frame is 1-2 business days, so should have it tomorrow all being well.
So hopefully by tomorrow night I will have a new toy to play with this weekend.

iMac upgraded last night to 512Mb RAM and sporting 10.4.9. Sadly neither the iBook and iMac have DVD drives so had to go out and buy an external Drive, oh bugger, another Dual Layer burner, $149 complete with a spindle of 50 printable and hopefully writable blank discs. Benefit of this one, is its an External. Nice
So homeward bound and unpackaged the Liteon writer and plugged her in. Beautiful, now we get to install Tiger, albeit it dragged on a bit and shedloads of files were copied, but it is so nice to start back up and not have to install drivers. Alas you still have the updates, but I can live with that, its still a computer running lines of code that need updating and improving, unlike MS who need to spend more time against issues with security and the like.
So would I say I am now sold on Apple? hmmm, let me think, I am still stuffing around on my Freshly formatted PC removing spyware and virus. Geeee let me think.
Thats why I am posting on the Mac.
So what do i think of Tiger? So far looks good, nice gizmos and gadgets, even though its only a 400Mhz machine with 512Mb ram, going good so far.

Suspicious

Ok, maybe I am being paranoid, but! I just watched a whole bunch of files transfer rather quickly from Mr PC to Mr iMac. Piccies dragged across to a new folder to play with on the mac and then some wavs and mp3′s. All seemed to go a little quicker than normal.
I also logged into my PC from the mac (once I figured out how to connect to the PC via the Mac) without any issues. The one thing that annoys me more than anything, is connecting to another PC across the network, it either cannot find the PC, no authorised access or the Network browser shits itself and you lose all the icons in the taskbar, then 1 minute later they re-appear. I will admit, that when it comes to the finer points of Network protocols, I am a complete numtpy, however, I do have a basic understanding of connecting two PC’s together. IP addresses must not be the same, ideally they should be on the same subnet and workgroup, although not of great importance if they are not. And that both machines can access the net/network and must be able to see each other - basic form. Naturally there is a lot more too it than that if you want to go deeper and learn the ins and outs of a cats ass.
I have noticed that file sharing on Windoze is iffy, all it takes is one minor glitch and its reboot and start again – I find. Firewalls can be useful, but also a major league pain in the ass if they aren’t configured properly, which I suspect that my Router is going Feral on me. Sadly the router cannot be updated – firmware-wise and can be awkward to set up. I feel a new router would help my cause. Flaming Dlink wireless 3 year old piece of shit. The wireless network is fairly easy to run, except you pretty much need to be on top of the thing to get a decent signal. I am only 20 feet away a few obstructions and Low to Very low signal. Every now and then, it falls out and drops the connection and I cannot realy move the office around to accomodate the wireless signal to improve.
So far the Mac has proved to be good fun, both iMac and the iBook. The upgrade to 10.2.8 went smooth and performance is good. I was wondering where on earth do you get into the iMac to install more memory? I had a look round the machine and thought, hmmm, where else could it…. ahhh underneath. Voila, there it was, a little flap with a screw (use of a 10 cent piece to unlock) and away you go. Currently she has only 256Mb or RAM. I am sure I have some memory somewhere that will match what is in it. I can dig round my old relics and have a look, else I can buy some off of eBay or local dealer, even Apple direct – may pay more but hey, the Mac cost me next to nothing.
I also pondered on upgrading the processor, but thus far haven’t realy got the answers I wanted out of Google, more research and more time is needed. Not had a moments rest really. 2 Days off sick with the bloody FLu thats smacking people down and working on audio files for a presentation for Sams office. I can hear people saying, why suspicious then for a title. Going back to my first couple of paragraphs, before I digressed and started rambling, it was purely relating to the speed of data transfer between Mac and PC, thats where the relevance started and ended, right there. Now I am totally mind fucked and rambling like a drunken ass, even though no booze has passed my lips. My eyes feel like hemeroids and my head feels like void, I am tired and cranky, so therefore the obvious solution is to piss off to bed, but Body is going Nahhh not yet. Thank fekk its friday tomorrow, Weekend is looking like a bunch of two days for doing fekk all.
The iMac has landed
Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007
I finished work at my normal time and made my way home as I always do. Arrived home in good time, traffic wasn’t too bad for a change, made a coffee and sat down. Sam had planned the route to take to get to the sellers house. The 2nd option was by far the better of the two as opposed to going to his house via Rhodes/Ikea and the shit fight traffic, we opted a back roads approach and saved us time and stress.
Got to his house and I made my way up his LONG driveway. I was met by a mature Gent and a very well spoken one, so I felt that a G’day mate ows it goin routine would have not gone down too well. He was very polite and introduced me to the Mac I am now writing this post on. I asked if I could see the machine up and running and shure enough he did. All fired up fairly quickly and without incident.
So after a chat with him about ‘why I wanted an Old Mac’ as he quizzed me on it, I paid my $76 and he helped me to the car. Shook hands and we parted equally happy. Not that he needed the money, the guy was minted, anyway, got in the car, buckled up and drove back home, complete with mac and a small detour to Hungry Jacks for tea.
Once eaten, a temporary space made for the iMac and she was up and running in no time. She came with Virtual PC, Via Voice, a full version of Windows 98 Second Edition – to run with Virtual PC, the OS9.2 instal CD and mouse (optical) and the typical Mac Keyboard, which thus far has been fairly kind to use.
The OS 9.2 was as i remembered, moreso the Apple, Control Panels and TCP/IP et all. (back to the Tech Support days). I didn’t bother venturing into other stuff, the mind was drifting into Update mode. So I did, I installed OSX! Ahhhh so much better, although having both discs and versions to hand, its no problem going back I thought. But then I played around and found that I can reboot the machine back into 9.2 or OSX or to Network…iFantastical!!!
So yes, all of you who own Mac’s, I can here you say, Macs are better, well, it is in one respect, ease of use and so much nicer to navigate around. The only annoyance I have thus far is the limitations on software downloads to update what software you have, although I will stand corrected if this is not the case. There is a place for PC and for Mac, now that i have the Mac to hand and my other G4 comming soon, I wish I had done this sooner.
I will keep the PC, more because of the money i have thrown at it of late and that certain things require the PC, my Printer for one – no mac drivers or software for it – good on ya Canon!!! My Old Epson C70 will plug straight into this, which is a relief. Anyway, thus far, I am happy to make the transition to Mac Life and enjoy its fruits.
