Gallery Update / Blog Update

It has been a while since I have done anything with the gallery, which is linked to this site (and held on this site). I felt it was time to make some adjustments. Thankfully I remembered what my log in was, so I have deleted all the images, albums and categories, as they were pretty messed up. Coppermine gallery which comes as an add-on with my control panel, is a bit painful to upload, add an album. My first attempts were hap hazard and completely unorganized. I am starting to rebuild the gallery, change the theme and re add photos as I go.

Some photos of the house build are located on there, so check back for updates, as this will take a few days to get most of the House pictures on there, then I will add past photos on there and hopefully get the Categories and Albums right this time.

I have added a page to this blog dedicated to the House build, so any updates will appear here as a short note.

XP vs Vista

It has been a short while since I last posted on here. I have been busy with Facebook. The reason why I have been busy with facebook is simple. Friendsreunited have gone free, so anyone can register on there and take full advantage of the features. Every now and again I get e-mails telling me that someone new has joined, so I log onto reunited and check out whos who. I managed to find a few more people and drop them a message to say Hi and find out what they are upto these days.

I was told that most of the people I worked with at U-NET/Via Not Works were on facebook, so I edited my profile and added a few people I knew, which led onto a few more and more. I have been so tied up with it, chatting to an Old mate Shaun, whom I used to work Night Shift with, all those years ago. It has been fun stomping down memory lane. So whats this got to do with Vista vs XP or vice versa?

It was easier trying to find these people than it is to find work arounds or do simple things that I could do in XP. I decided that i would try and edit/create my own theme, so I downloaded some server software so i could trial out my ideas and test my own designs on things not relating to my blog. My main site has been dormant for years, I felt it was time to do something about it. Even if its a basic homepage with a few gadgets and gismos, until i can add something worthy of the bandwidth (as if this isn’t).

I tried 2 lots of server apps, Xampp and Wamp Server. Both looking good, easy to install, but windows Vista does like to mess with your head. So having used Xamp before and know it works well, I tried that, no success. Tried installing WordPress and 500 server errors all the time, tried running as Admin, made no difference.

Music Software had serious issues too. Sadly no more as I have deleted them off the system, kinda defeats me having a shiny new fast laptop. So my decision is to replace Vista with XP. I just need to ensure that all the gizzmos work under XP. So tonight I have breathed life back into an old machine, in various states of decay. Currently sitting on a format of 74% so not long to go before Xp begins to install. I used a Maxtor CD to erase the drive and format etc. Now windaz is doing the same. Just to make sure. I really do miss FDISK, such a wonderful tool to have in your arsenal.

Still waiting on Mickey Soft to get back to me, called them 6 days ago, still no response. But hey, i kinda new that would happen. I complained that Vista was the spawn of satan and rather than moving forward, I was taking wacking big leaps backwards. I suppose I didn’t help my cause?

81% and maybe i can do some actual design work and trial it out on a system that will allow me to.

New Links

I have added new links which I felt worthy of getting listed. i am in the process of looking to add more links in the photographic section, I just need to find like minded peeps for Music. I may also need to look at blogs on Diving too, which will be another interest of mine soon…when the weather picks up,too much rain at the moment I don’t want to get wet :-) :-)

Some new fotos

Finally getting round to adding some more pictures on the Gallery, will be adding some more tomorrow, in the meantime, check the Gallery link on the right hand side…. the one with the image.

Archives by Year WP 2.5.1

A useful piece of script for changing the look or appearance of your archives. For me this was found by accident. I was looking for help on this via the wordpress site, but as always – Codex was using big words and terms refering to script. I like to keep things simple, moreso late at night. So without going on too much, here is the code

<ul><?php wp_get_archives(‘type=yearly’); ?></ul></li>

Somewhere on your Sidebar or Sidebar2, 3 or whatever you are using, the code will look similar to this:

<ul><?php wp_get_archives(‘type=monthly’); ?></ul></li>

Changing the Monthly to Yearly obviously will change the look of your archives. Now It works on My blog and my current theme, so try it and see with whatever version/theme you are using. I am no expert on this, so no silly questions.

New Look – Part Two

Ok, lets try this one again. Time for a new look and maybe a new direction. Whilst this blog is a personal thing, that I have somehow managed to keep alive all this months, maybe even 3 years almost. I feel that it could, if not already be a tad stale. So I have been mooching around the web and found other like minded blogs and web sites based on Photography and Music. Whilst both of these subjects are close to my heart, moreso the Music, I thought maybe, and this is purely an idea at the moment, that I should bias the blog towards both.

But. The whole concept of this blog was to rant and rave in both calm and crazy, with all stops inbetween, I think that it would lose some of its appeal. I could include more techy stuff on PC/MAC but I know less than nothing worthy of printing. Lucky I can find my way round a desktop and operate the mouse these days. Patience is a virtue that I sadly lack. I cannot imagine myself sat at a desk with a plantronics headset on and trying to help some poor fool who is worse off than me. That is a picture I refuse to look at, even consider going back to.

The theme issues or Templates as I called them before, this was PMC – Pre Morning Coffee, was based on the fact I was using Dreambeaver to upload files into my blog. For some reason when you move your files or folders within the dreamweaver environment, it will automatically update links. This for the most part is good. However, I think I may have opted for the Do Not Update method and maybe I stuffed a few things up. There, I said it. So I take it back. At least they are creating nice ‘templates’ – Themes for others to use, whereas I dont even create anything. I just type on here, why? God Knows!

new look

Or not as the case maybe. Why bother having nice looking templates for your blog if they don’t work!!! Come on people, you spend ages designing these things and overlook some code and it stuffs the whole look and feel of the template

Recent events

Well, I have been busy with all kinds of things these past few weeks. Sorry for not posting much. Last weekend was spent well. Saturday morning I was in work, along with Chris and Adam. Our task was to destroy some of our Boats. Yes you did read that part correctly – Destroying Boats. I will add some photos once I figure out wtf is up with WordPress and uploading images in IE, damn this is annoying. Anyway, after 6 hours of crunching boats up and offloading at the local tip, I got home and got ready for the big night out.

The night was spent at Revesby Workers club, sounds dodgy as, but in fact it looks like a white palace and just as perrrty inside. The Show was Jack Jones, Tanya Doko, Jon Stevens and Ian Moss. For the Uk readers and any other non Australian music lovers, Jack Jones (Irwin Thomas) was from the band Southern Sons, Tanya Doko from Bachelorgirl, Jon Stevens – Noiseworks and Ian Moss from Cold Chisel. They all played accoustic versions of their songs, new and old and I have to say the musicians with them were worth the $45 to get in alone. Shear bonus that the aforementioned peeps were there too. I thoroughly enjoyed it and managed to get some photos off with my Phone camera. Sadly some of them are a little blurred but not too bad for a camera-fone.

Music

after finding my way around the new puter, I felt it was time to install some of the stuff I really want on here. Fortunately the peeps at HP don’t install too much crap on the system, unlike some companies do. The weapon of choice this time was Reason 4, one of propellorheads latest offerings. Sadly I don’t seem to have the time to be playing as much with the audio stuff these days, not as much as I would like to anyway.

Having said all that. I have just revamped an old machine which was sitting around gathering dust, so a quick spruce up, a hard drive here and there, new OS and away it went. This just leaves one machine lying idle and minus a few bits and bobs. My old Server has now become unusable. The old IBM laptop is going to a new home, just as soon as I clear all the crap and old email of there. So that just leaves the newbie machine and the Media PC.

The option to upgrade the Media PC is on the cards, but not just yet. I would like to beef upto a quad core processor or dual quad core and 4 – 8 Gig of RAM, sadly the cost of which is beyond my means, not to mention justifying the outlay for something that works – ok – at the moment. i still havent discounted the option for a shiny new mac for my video/audio editing yet, again….future. Not now!

I think I mentioned installing Macromedia on here, so now is the time to start working on my main site and run this alongside. How, I haven’t a clue yet, but something needs to be done.

So back to music. Once I get my head around using some of the new fangled tools and synths on Reason, I am sure to post some updates here untill I get my site up and running again.

early finish

Thursday and the company barbecue. We all got to finish early today, save for a few people. I got to finish 1 hour earlier, just as well really as the drive home was hard to keep awake. The barbecue started at 1pm and the usual raffle tickets were sold. The prizes were a little fewer than last years. I won a $50 gift voucher which is cool. I won last year too. The main prize was a Samsung DV camera which Todd won, bless him, he will be happy with that. Shawn was off again today, in fact he has been off all week. So just Chris, Adam and myself have had the run of the stores.

ANZAC day tomorrow, so yet another early start, just hope the rain holds off for all the people in the parades. Up at the sparrows fart so no rest again. Today, I have been really tired and little motivation. Thankfully we weren’t that busy today. Paperwork is pretty much upto date and stock requisitions have been put in. Just need to see how much of the stock actually gets ordered.

A change in the warehouse has taken place. Shawn is now moving next door into Unit F, we are based in Unit G, so just the aforementioned peeps now reside solely in stoeres. This should be better for Shawn and for us, at least Shawn can concentrate solely on his stock ordering and Purchase orders. This will however add additional paperwork for us as we will now have to raise RQN’s for all stock that we require.

So far so good with the new toys. My only complaint, if you can call it that is the Nokia phone battery doesnt last quite as long as I would hope. Having said that the volume of the stereo speakers is quite loud and having the Bluetooth on won’t help matters either. I have been playing with it for a bit, so I would hope that normal standby should be better.

Laptop is good, very good. As yet I have still to install music software and video software, hopefully, I might get a chance sometime this weekend. The keyboard on this HP is very nice. It seems to have a very short throw on the keys, that is you don’t have to press down or slam down to far to make a keystroke, almost touch sensitive. The hands sit nicely on the body of the thing so your hands don’t have to stretch to far or get scrunched up to type. The numeric keypad addition is nice also, as is the inbuilt video cam on the screen. I have tried the camera and it seems to produce some good images.

Ok, more coffee is required before I goto pick Sam up from the station.
